Louie Lopez Interview

Flip Skateboard's Louie Lopez was gnarly even when he hit the scene at 7 years old. Fast forward 10 years and Louie is now one of Flip's newest pros and is off to a great start, taking 3rd at the K-Diamond Cup World Skate Championships and most recently taking 1st at Dew Tour's Street Finals. More importantly, he's hunkering down and working on his first pro video part for Flip.

We sat down with Louie to get a few questions answered before he leaves us all in the dust with his meteoric rise to legend status.

FTC3 Golden Wristband Extravaganza

The day started out like any other for SkateMore, slumming it on Haight Street, looking for the come up. Except today was different, today there was something special in the air... and no it wasn't the hippies getting lit on the curb... IT WAS FTC3!!!

I arrived at FTC with no idea how I was going to get in, when who do I find skating out front? None other than SkateMore homie Raven Tershy! You have no idea how chill this dude is. He remembered me from Dew Tour and was down to help me out. Suddenly, FTC owner Kent came walking out the front with a fistful of wristbands, some orange, some gold. He came right up to Raven, just saying hi and giving him props. As I'm awkwardly standing next to Raven as they talk, Kent points to me and says, "this is your friend? Well I better give him a gold one." BOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!! It was on from there!

The Curren Caples Interview

Curren Caples paid his dues as a Flip Am for nearly a decade before finally receiving his first pro model this past Summer. He's been busy the past few months, taking 2nd at X-Games Barcelona, 1st at X-Games Munich and 2nd place at DewTour SF.

With so much going on it was only necessary he took a break between wins to answer a few SkateMore questions, so lurk on to find how he's been shaking the little kid image, how he deals with super-fans and a few thoughts on his recent 22-stair feeble grind cover for The Skateboard Mag.

SkateMore's 2013 Dew Tour LurkFest

This past weekend SkateMore sent a couple lurkers out into the city to cover Dew Tour. None of that would be article worthy if it wasn't for the fact ya boy got hooked up with a media pass!!! How did we get it? None of your business. Was it easy to get? Ridiculously so... And once we got our greedy little meat hooks on this pass nobody was safe. SkateMore immediately went into "shameless-self-promotion" mode to make sure we got you the best coverage possible. And hot damn we came through! From smoking with David Gravette to Gary Rogers giving me his phone number to Atiba Jefferson taking my photo to free Common tickets to running into Sean Malto EVERYWHERE, we're hard pressed to find anyone who took advantage of this occassion as much as SkateMore.

OH! And I think we maybe took a couple photos of people skating too, check out SkateMore's first ever skate video and more pictures than you can shake your dick at!

Skateboarding's Most Blatant Abuses of Power

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions... For those of you not up to date on your Latin proverbs this quote implies that even if you're trying to do some good, your actions can have unforeseen consequences... Skinny jeans come to mind for some reason.

For those involved on the "business side" of skating, their intentions for our useless wooden toys are (almost) always good, but like any other business, sometimes they gotta make some POWER moves.

Sometimes, in the case of Steve Rocco, they work. Other times they just confuse.

These are "Skateboarding's Most Blatant Abuses of Power".

The Most Destructive Teams In The History Of Skateboarding

Skateboarding these days can have a pretty clean image- P-Rod loves Jesus, the Birdman has a backyard jacuzzi, and Terry Kennedy has his own show on BET.

It wasn't always this way. And for all the success that folks are acheiving these days, we at SkateMore sometimes yearn for a time like the early 90s when skateboarding wasn't cool, World Industries was, and wheels were 36 millimeters.

OK, we don't miss the small wheels.

But we miss the recklessness of the time, a time when you could fight security guards at Munster without having to worry about getting dropped by Mountain Dew. The following is SkateMore's homage to "The Most Destructive Teams In The History Of Skateboarding".

Signs of the Impending Moose-Ocalypse

The signs were all there... The backside 360 at Bernal Heights. The backside 360 at Hollywood High School. But some of us didn't listen, and now it's too late.

Man-Ams, take shelter from this swirling mass of gnar.

Washed-up Pros take to the hills and film, film, film!

Indifferent destruction shall commence, as The Moose-Ocalypse is here and the man they call Moose is now pro.

Sketchy Decks To Offend People

Sketchy Decks To Offend People

As a child, my parents showed very little concern for censoring the relentless stream of illicit content that managed it's way into my fragile little mind, and for that I am eternally grateful.

But with these newfangled interwebs it's becoming harder than ever for overprotective parents to shelter their precocious young ones from the celebration of weed and booze that makes up 90% of skateboarding graphics today.

To help better understand the current state of ass cheeks, lean, and police-hating that is skate decks today, SkateMore has compiled a list of "Sketchy Decks To Offend People." Simply click a company logo and enjoy the vulgarity!

Skateboarding's Worst Endorsements

With skateboarding, the formula was once simple- you filmed a part every few years, maybe did a pro spotlight in Transworld, demoed your way across the US once annually and flew to Europe for the Munster contest. How things have changed..

Now, in addition to spending a year breaking yourself for web-only video releases, you've got expenses- the Benz you are leasing, the ice on your neck, your own private skatepark to keep up with the Joneses Berrics, a few exotic pets and a stint at rehab. Suddenly, that corporate cash starts to look pretty good, and before you know it you are facedown on Red Bull's leather casting couch.

At least the money's good in Skateboarding's Worst Endorsements.

What Happens When Skate Brands Collide?

Here's a math problem for you... Two skate brands are on the same track heading towards each other at high speed. If one brand is traveling at 105mph and the other is traveling at 115mph how fucking awesome will their product line be when they collide?

Questions such as this have plagued scholars for decades and although we don't have the answer, our belief is you can always look to the past to predict the future. So join us as we journey back in time for answers and review some of the best skate brand collaborations to date.

12 Pro Skaters You Maybe Thought Were Homeless

Have you ever been sitting on a street corner, worn out from a day of skating, when a random passerby throws spare change at your feet thinking you're some kind of bum??? No? Oh... Me neither. But hypothetically if that DID happen to you, we at SkateMore would like to point out that you wouldn't be alone, in fact you'd probably be in good company. It's with this in mind we present the 12 Pro Skaters You Maybe Thought Were Homeless.
